Recurring Payments
Setting up automatic payment collection
Recurring payments automatically charge tenants for rent on their due dates, reducing manual work and ensuring timely collection.

How It Works
With recurring payments enabled:
- Tenant provides payment details once
- Rentigo automatically initiates charges on due dates
- Payments are recorded automatically when successful
- Both you and the tenant receive confirmation
- Failed payments trigger retries and notifications
Recurring payments require a connected payment provider. See Payment Providers to connect Stripe or Tpay.
Supported Providers
| Provider | Regions | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Global | Cards, ACH (US), SEPA (EU) |
| Tpay | Poland | Cards, BLIK, bank transfers |
Choose the provider that best fits your location and tenant preferences.
Setting Up Recurring Payments
Connect Payment Provider
Go to Settings → Payments and connect your Stripe or Tpay account.
Navigate to Lease
Go to the active lease where you want to enable recurring payments.
Enable Recurring Payments
Click Enable Recurring Payments in the lease details.
Tenant Authorization
The tenant receives an email with a secure link to authorize automatic payments.
Tenant Enters Payment Details
Tenant provides their card, bank account, or other payment method.
Confirmation
Once authorized, both parties receive confirmation. Recurring charges begin on the next due date.
Tenant Experience
When you enable recurring payments:
- Tenant receives an email explaining the setup
- They click a secure link to the payment authorization page
- They choose their payment method:
- Stripe: Card or bank account (ACH/SEPA)
- Tpay: Card, BLIK, or Polish bank transfer
- A small verification charge may be made and refunded
- Monthly charges begin automatically
Explain the benefits to tenants: no late fees, no need to remember due dates, and instant payment confirmation.
Payment Schedule
Recurring charges follow your configured schedule:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Due Day | Day of month rent is charged (default: 1st) |
| Grace Period | Optional delay before charging (e.g., charge on 5th even if due 1st) |
| Retry Logic | Failed payments are automatically retried |
Charges are initiated early morning on the due date. Processing time depends on the payment method.
Failed Payments
If a recurring payment fails:
- Automatic Retry — Rentigo retries up to 3 times over 7 days
- Notifications — You and the tenant are notified of each failure
- Status Update — If all retries fail, status becomes "Failed"
- Manual Resolution — Tenant can update payment details and pay manually
Common Failure Reasons
| Reason | Solution |
|---|---|
| Insufficient Funds | Wait for retry or tenant pays manually |
| Card Expired | Tenant updates payment method |
| Bank Declined | Tenant contacts bank or uses different method |
| 3DS Required | Tenant completes verification |
Monitor failed payments and communicate with tenants to resolve issues quickly.

Fees and Pricing
Processing Fees
| Provider | Method | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Cards (US) | 2.9% + $0.30 |
| Stripe | Cards (EU) | 1.5% + €0.25 |
| Stripe | ACH (US) | 0.8% (max $5) |
| Stripe | SEPA (EU) | 0.8% (max €5) |
| Tpay | Cards | ~1.5% |
| Tpay | BLIK | ~0.8% |
| Tpay | Bank Transfer | ~0.5% |
Who Pays the Fee?
Configure fee handling in Settings → Payments:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| You Absorb | Fee deducted from your payout |
| Tenant Pays | Fee added to tenant's charge |
| Split | Fee shared between both parties |
Consider who pays fees based on your market. In some regions, passing fees to tenants is standard; in others, landlords absorb them.
3D Secure Verification
For card payments, 3D Secure (3DS) verification may be required:
- During Setup — Tenant verifies their card with their bank
- Recurring Charges — Usually proceed without re-verification
- New Cards — Require fresh 3DS verification
- Declined Cards — May need bank contact
3DS is automatically enabled for regions that require it (EU, UK). It reduces fraud and chargebacks.
Best Practices
- Explain Benefits — Help tenants understand why recurring payments are convenient
- Set Up Early — Enable recurring when the lease starts, not after problems
- Monitor Failures — Check weekly for any failed payments
- Communicate Proactively — Notify tenants of upcoming first charges
- Offer Multiple Methods — If using Tpay, highlight BLIK as a convenient option
